Yes Men Article

Chevron launched a campaign called “We Agree” which addressed issues associated with oil companies. But because of the development of the internet the “Yes Men” created a spoof which attacked chevron.

What I find interesting about the “Yes Man” article is how it allows the viewer to see the flaws in chevrons “We Agree” campaign. Chevrons “we agree” argues that oil companies need to start looking out for the people, environment, and communities that help them profit. What the “Yes Men” do is suggest that these companies take responsibility for there actions and flaws, in admitting they are wrong.

After investigative both the “Yes Men” and “We Agree” article the first thing that came to my mind is the BP oil spill tragedy that occurred a few months ago, and how it affected our natural environment. These articles also suggest that oil companies are money hungry and will do anything to create large profits. This made me consider the communities these companies reside in and how they are affected.

Remix Assignment

For my Remix assignment I created a music video for a part of a song called "Little Person" by Jon Brion. The video considers how we as individuals are just one small insignificant fraction of the universe, yet our short lives make a huge impact on the lives of other as well as our planet. The video displays many forms of beauty found on earth, from our natural environment to the feelings of love we share with one another.

Nuit Blanche Toronto 2010

This year was my first time experiencing Nuit Blanche. Although I can not compare this year’s festival with previous years, it is safe to say I very much enjoyed my experience. The city was overflowing with an exceptional variety of people; artists, tourists, and families. The festival was ongoing all night with galleries, performances, and exhibits. For me Nuit Blanche was a wonderful social experience, in which I found captivating, and inspiring.
One exhibit which particularly caught my attention was “All Night I Mourned Myself.” It was a multimedia instillation by John Shipman, Pamela Williams, and Zhang Xing. What intrigued me about this exhibit is how it allows you to imagine yourself at your own funeral; which is something that “arguably” no one can consciously experience. The exhibit takes place in a dark church. You’re asked to lie down on a pew, and listen to a CoffinPhone, while you watch mourners peer down at you from above. Through the phone u can hear your family and friends grieve you. What connected me with this instillation was my own interest and obsession with death, and how it reminded me of my mortality. I also enjoyed the photography and music present; which complemented to the already alluring experience.

Remix Project Proposal

For my remix project I want to illustrate how female sexuality is being viewed and explored in the mass media. The mass media is often used to reinforce male dominance, this often evolves emphasizes the female body as an object for men’s use and sexual desires. My inspiration for this assignment came from Madonna and Lady Gaga. I admire these women as they struggle to express the female libido and sexuality through music, and fashion. My goal is to demonstrate this struggle through music videos, magazine clippings, you tube videos, as well as newspaper articles.

The Web Is Dead. Long Live The Internet.

The Web Is Dead. Long Live the Internet

Two decades after the birth of the World Wide Web, it faces a decline. This is a result of simpler, sleeker services such as apps.
Who’s to Blame: Us
As much as we love the open, unfettered Web, we’re abandoning it for simpler, sleeker services that just work.
by Chris Anderson
Who’s to Blame: Them?
Chaos isn’t a business model. A new breed of media moguls is bringing order — and profits — to the digital world.
by Michael Wolff

My Response:
My response to this article is that the web will never die. I agree with Chis Anderson that we do  greatly rely on apps, but this is only for there connivance. Blackberries, and IPhones make the internet easily accessible through the tough of one button. We will always need the web as it is a key source for finding information, sharing ideas, and communicating throughout the world.

Art Liberates

The work I have created above reflects how art is liberating and inspiring to me. The individuals I have selected in my work are all figures who I admire; Jackson Pollock, the Beatles, and Marilyn Monroe. What inspires me about these individuals is how they separated themselves from conventional forms of art and music in the creation of something original.
I chose to take this course because I am very interested in using the computer as a creative medium, but have little experience and knowledge with the artistic software programs available. What I want to achieve from this course is the extensive knowledge of media software programs, and the ability to use them in the creation and expression of my own artistic ideas.
